I guess it didn't really grab my attention all that much. Recently I've become a bit more absorbed into racing and formula 1 and well, my interest for all things racing-related expanded.
From the date of this review, I've owned this for about two weeks. Before owning it, I watched it online for the first time. Then I had to watch it again right after.
Then I made my daughter watch it, just so I could watch it again, haha! I have probably seen this 10 times already. I made my sister who doesn't care at all for racing watch it and she was biting her nails during some of the Senna vs Prost racing footage.
She said she felt a deep sense of loss and sadness after having watched this. It is a beautifully made film made to be enjoyed by all!!
It's as old as the myths themselves, every country wants their young male champion. No human on earth seems to rise as close to the Gods themselves as a legendary world class champion when he works his magic.
These champions might come once in an entire generation. Messi, Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth. They embody all the hopes and dreams of their countrymen.
They are the one who possesses the ability of an Achilles, an almost supernatural skill that shows he is truly great. This happens when Messi curves the ball a little more than what seems possible to score a goal, when Michael Jordan seems to fly or when Ruth steps out of the batter's box to point his finger calling his shot before blasting one out.
The cockpit videos are interesting, but they like most of this film are of very poor quality. Senna died a racer's death. This "documentary" has an unrealistic point of view - that everyone, particularly all other racers were unfairly against Senna.
Of course they were, they were all against each other. That is what racing is all about. My copy is the two disc version and it arrived in "as new" condition in 11 days from the order date.

I was watching the Friday practice in which Ruben Barrichello was injured; The Saturday practice and qualifying in which Roland Ratzenberger was killed; The race on Sunday in which Aryton Senna was killed.
This to me was saddest weekend in F1 history. This weekend changed how Formula One looks and races to this day.
Honestly, this is one of the best movies I've ever watched, racing related or otherwise. Sure some of the footage is old and of much lower quality but that was the state of videography back in this 80s GoPros weren't even a twinkle in the inventors eye :.
I also like how they put some scenes about Ayrton's philanthropy in the movie as well. However, that said, I will agree with the Alain Prost interview that I have watched that this movie does paint a more bleak picture about Ayrton and Alain's relationship than was really the case.
For those who just took the movies stance on Prost at face value, which made him seem like a jerk, hopefully he was redeemed when the text about him being a trustee for the Senna Foundation.
I am not going to pull punches herethe movie will make you very sad, because we all know Ayrton Senna dies in the Imola crash at the end.
This is a fantastic movie about his life and his religious nature, which I found refreshing in these politically correct times.
It shows his meteor-like rise through the ranks of the junior leagues and into F1. He was an insane fast driver--especially in the rain. The race footage is outstanding.
You get a feel for the Man, who he was, how he conducted himself on and off the track. He was as romantic about the sport as he was for womena real racing gentleman.
They don't make them like this anymore. He wasn't fearless, he had faith in God and truly felt that angels were with him during several miraculous wins.
Like I said The movie is worth every pennyjust for the respect factor alone. I was always intrigued by the precision, the pushing of limits, the passion but also the shear international impact F1-Racing had.
The movie shows wonderfully the progress F1-Racing made in the 80 and 90th - a sport of kings. The movie could serve in multiple ways And, on that note It's tough to find a balance between strive for victory, and control of risks involved.

However this film does a pretty good job of doing just that. It shows clips never seen before and of course clips we have all seen before, but may have forgotten about because let's face it, it's nearly 30 years ago that he broke through into F1 and that makes me feel very old.
It really shows what a dedicated, very emotional and religious man he was. People think he was a hard nosed racer who would do anything to win, well maybe he was, but he was always the first there when another driver was injured.
The look on his face when Martin Donnelly had his near fatal crash at Jerez in '91 says it all and when Rubens and Roland had their accidents at Imola the weekend that he died.
He knew he shouldn't have raced that day and how we all wish he hadn't. We all remember what happened in May '94, it is etched into my brain, as we sat there and watched it all happen live not believing what we were seeing.
It's impossible to see the footage without getting emotional and I defy anyone not to be upset by it. I sat there last night weeping.
As the 17 years have passed there is not a day when I don't think of my only idol, the only man I would ever have left my husband for.
Life is so cruel, but what he did do is leave us with the BEST motor racing we will ever see and probably will ever see.
Those cars were beasts and needed skill to handle them and the drivers of that era were true heroes. Nowadays they are computer operators and nothing more.

I had wanted to see this for a while, and bought last week now that it is a very reasonable price just over four pounds It arrived yesterday, and I watched it the same evening.
Conclusion: Very well put together, and even though this is feature length, it keeps you hooked the entire time.
If you didn't realise how good Senna was before, then you will appreciate his talents after watching this.
This takes you from Sennas beginnings in karting, right up to his sad and premature death. Really interesting seeing the film of the drivers in the pre-race briefings, and Sennas rivalry with Alain Prost - and all the conniving and politics that went on the background.
This won't just appeal to fans of F1, as it is so much more than just the racing. The scenes following the Imola crash, and Sennas funeral are very poignant and touching.
